Printing Plant is closing in Cherry Hill

A South Jersey newspaper under Gannett ownership is set to lay off nearly 140 employees in Cherry Hill, affecting both its own printing operations and those of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News. According to a notice filed under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act on Thursday, the Courier Post announced the closure of its production facility on June 23. This closure will result in the termination of 139 full and part-time positions in the mailroom and press operations.

Located adjacent to the Courier Post offices on Cuthbert Boulevard in Cherry Hill, the facility handles printing and packaging for several South Jersey and regional newspapers, including the Courier-Post, the Burlington County Times, and the Vineland Daily Journal—all owned by Gannett. Additionally, it prints the Inquirer, which is owned by the Lenfest Institute. When contacted by the Business Journal via email, the Courier Post declined to specify other non-Gannett publications affected by the closure.

Office Furniture Retailer Coming to Cherry Hill

CHERRY HILL – The former Bayard’s Chocolate House, a Route 70 landmark that’s been vacant since 2019, is expected to become the new home of an office-furniture discounter.

Affordable Furniture Outlet, also based on Route 70, will move a half-mile to occupy the 3,100-square-foot, two-story building, according to information presented at a planning board meeting on Monday.

The Chocolate House opened in 1960 at Route 70 and South Union Avenue. It closed in March 2019, following its owner’s bankruptcy.

Affordable Furniture Outlet, owned by Jack Israel, opened in 1989. It plans to leave its longtime site on the 2300 block of eastbound Route 73, near the Pennsauken border.

A Vineland developer has applied to the Cherry Hill Planning Board to build a 25,000-square-foot “flex space” building with box truck loading and parking at the northwest corner of Woodcrest and Burnt Mill roads.

Applicant VCC 100 Woodcrest Road LLC, associated with Vineland Construction Co., is scheduled to testify to the board at its meeting next Monday and present the preliminary and final major site plans for approval. The site, a grassy lot, is across Burnt Mill Road from Bryant Road and a residential neighborhood.

Tesla Body Shop Planned for Garden State Discovery Museum

Tesla body shop coming to Cherry Hill

If you are a parent from the 70and73 area, you probably spent some time in the one-story building on Springdale Road in Cherry Hill that for 26 years was the Garden State Discovery Museum.

But the interactive, New Jersey-focused center for 2-to-10-year-olds shut down during the pandemic and never reopened. It had opened in June 1994. About a month before it closed, the nonprofit also pulled out of its management agreement for Paws Farm in Mount Laurel.

Now the empty building in the industrial park soon may reopen as a Tesla auto body shop.

Tesla Collision Center Planned for Former Garden State Discovery Museum

A Tesla Collision Center is planned for Springdale Road in Cherry Hill, taking over the property which was most recently the Garden State Discovery Museum.

Monster Golf is in the rear of the same building and it appears they are unaffected by Tesla coming in to the Springdale road side of the building.

This 49,500 sq ft Tesla Collision Center will be the second Cherry Hill property for Tesla, as they operate a Sales and Service center on Route 70.

The design documents point out that since Tesla vehicles are 100% electric cars, there are no emissions or engine oil in the facility.

We do not have a full timeline on the Tesla project, but 42Freeway has seen the full set of construction plans.
